Roulette bets are split into two main types (although there are a few more exotic bets called roulette call bets). the 2 categories are Inside Bets and Outside Bets- these names refer to the position that you place your chips when you are betting at the table.
Inside bets
Straight Up Bet: a bet on a single number. Place your chip directly on a number square.
Split Bet: a bet on 2 numbers lying next to each other, either vertically or horizontally. Place your chip on the line seperating the 2 numbers.
Street Bet: a bet on 3 numbers on one line across. Place your chip on the edge of the line at the end (either side).
Corner/square Bet: a bet on 4 numbers in a square.Place your chip where the lines between the numbers cross.
Six Line Bet: 2 street bets next to each other. Place your chip where the 2 streets cross.
Outside bets
Outside bets are generally a safer bet with better odds BUT the payout is correspondingly lower.
1 to 18: a low number bet: on one of the first 18 numbers.
19 to 36: a high number bet: one of the high 18 numbers.
Red or Black: a colour bet.
Even or Odd: another "even money" bet- you are predicting an even or odd number.
Dozen Bets: a bet on the first dozen (1-12), second dozen (13-24), or third dozen (25-36).
Column Bets: a bet on twelve numbers in a column on the roulette table where you place your bets. Place the wager below the final number in the column.
