Ofcom to allow TV roulette through the night on ITV1, Channel 4 and Fiva

3 commercial TV will be able to show TV roulette and shopping channels through the night following a decision by Ofcom, the UK regulator. The change should help them generate more revenue for TV programmes.

The roulette, gambling and shooping shows can air between midnight and 6am on ITV1, Channel 4 and Five. The roulette offering will be part of a so called transactional gambling show where participants pay to play roulette, or place bets on virtual competitions and the gee gees.

Satellite TV already offers such services and Ofcom is of the opinion that this will level the playing field between satellite and terristrial broadcasters. Commercial TV broadcasters have been hit hard by the economic crisis.
